Foundations

It starts below ground.

Every dependable extension begins with what you can't see. We excavated deep, square foundations down to firm bearing strata, working carefully around existing drainage and services and protecting the runs we kept.

Done right at this stage, everything above sits solid for the life of the building.

The Structure

Engineering brick and steel.

Up came the new footings in dense engineering brick, levelled and tied in ready for the floor slab. Long structural steel beams were craned in to carry the openings and the new floor above, the backbone that lets the inside open right up.

Openings were toothed neatly into the existing brickwork so old and new knit together.

Shell & Roof

Watertight and tied in.

With the walls up, a new timber roof structure was cut and fixed over the extension, lapped into the existing roofline and weatherproofed. Lead detailing and matched brickwork make the join all but invisible from the garden.
