Behind the moss and flaking paint, the roofline of this period property had quietly failed. Original timber bargeboards, fascias and rafter feet had taken on water for years, soft, blackened and in places rotted clean through.
Left any longer, the damp would have tracked back into the roof structure and the walls below.
Once scaffolded and inspected at close quarters, the full extent showed itself, rafter ends crumbling away from the wall, fungal growth in the timber and bargeboards held together by little more than old paint.
Every affected length was identified and marked so nothing rotten was left buried behind the new work.
We cut out the failed sections back to sound material, spliced and replaced rafter feet, and installed new fascias, soffits and bargeboards in fresh timber, matched to the original profiles so the building keeps its period character.
